Tamamo Park, Historic Site of Takamatsu Castle
Designated national historical site The name "Tamamo" is said to be based on the fact that the sea around here was called "Tamamo no Ura" because Kakimoto Hitomaro wrote "Tamamo no Yoshi" as a poetic epithet for the Sanuki province in Manyoshu (literally a collection of ten-thousand leaves;・the oldest anthology of poems from the 8th century). Tamamo Park is a park that maintains the ruins of Takamatsu Castle, which was the residence of the Ikoma family, the lord of Sanuki province, and the Matsudaira family, the lord of the Takamatsu. The castle that drew the sea water of the Seto Inland Sea into the moat is known as the three major water castles in Japan. In the park, there are a ushitora yagura, a tsukimi yagura, a mizutegomon gate, a watari yagura, and hiunkaku, which are designated as important cultural assets in Japan. In addition, there is a garden at hiunkaku, which is designated as a scenic spot in Japan.
